Do you spend your time wondering what it would be like to live in a certain era or as a certain historical figure? We’ve all done it at least once or twice, but some of us have stronger urges to fulfill our obsession with history and human civilization than others, and sometimes reading a history book just doesn’t satisfy our retrospective way of thinking. One of the most idealized figures in history is a “knight in shining armor.”
To young boys, a knight is a warrior; he’s trained in the most powerful form of martial arts in Europe and fights off enemies to protect what he holds dear. To a young girl, a knight is the epitome of chivalry and courage, and he’s always willing to risk his life for his people.
So what if I told you there’s a way to live your life as a knight in modern times? It doesn’t matter if you’re male or female, tall or small, anyone can be a knight! Keep reading to learn what you should be doing to live your life as a knight and immerse yourself in your favorite historical era.
Attend renaissance fairs
What kind of knight are you if you don’t watch jousting while munching on a turkey leg? Renaissance fairs are a great place to get in touch with your inner knight. By visiting one, you’ll be fully immersed in the sights and sounds of the era and you won’t have to worry about pesky modern technology distracting your train of thought (no pun intended). There are plenty of renaissance fairs out there for you to attend, so make sure you search for one near you.
Fear not young knights, there is non-alcoholic mead out there for you! However, if you want to become a knight, you’re going to have to commit to a knight’s diet. As noblemen, knights were a bit more fortunate than your typical peasant, and as such, had more choices for what they could eat and drink. Knights typically ate fresh meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, and bread. To drink, they would have wine, cider, beer, water, or our favorite, mead!
Always be kind
The pinnacle of knighthood is to be a servant to the public, and in our modern society, there are ample ways to do this. Try donating to a charity or volunteering at your local homeless shelter and always be conscious of how your actions affect those around you. As a result, you’ll feel more confident in your role as a knight!
Wear armor, everywhere…
If you want to fully convince everyone else that you’re a knight, you should be wearing a full set of armor on a daily basis. There are a lot of unseen benefits of wearing armor like increased leg and arm strength, protection from the unnatural dangerous of our modern world, and the ability to strike fear into the hearts of your enemies. Or you can just wear armor to cosplay conventions, it’s up to you…
